What is the difference between a Brennan Energy Healing and Reiki?
Both Brennan Healing Science and Reiki are healing modalities that channel universal energy (Chi or Prana) through the practitioner’s energy field to make it available to the client through the laying on of hands on the body joints and chakras. This energy of Divine Consciousness is one that promotes healing and relaxation for the client.
Reiki is learned in 3 or 4 short courses (32 to 50 hours) while BHS is learned in an intensive 4 year program (2,000 hours).
Brennan Healing Science is taught as a 4-year intensive curriculum which is recognized by the State of Florida as a Bachelor in Healing Science. BHS can only be learned at the school where the learning and teaching is consistent, rigorous and structured. BHS 4 year program includes about 2,000 hours of courses and personal development work with both in-residence and distance learning modules. The 4-year course work includes:
This comprehensive course content and intensive personal work requires a huge personal commitment from the student. The student learns about personal wounding and dynamics in relationship with the self and others. Much emphasis is placed on awakening the consciousness which creates deep awareness and contact with the self. This awakening and the intense personal work done in therapy have the effect of opening up and deeply clearing the energy field, allowing the practitioner to increase his or her ability to channel the energy and to have deep contact and presence with the client.
In addition to this, specific techniques are learned to ground deeply into the earth, to regularly clear and charge the practitioner’s energy field, to manage one’s own energy field and to prepare for a session with a client.
In the Brennan healing model, universal energy is channeled through the crown chakra and also drawn up from the earth to make it available to the client through the palm chakras. Thus, a wider spectrum (frequency) of energy is made available to the client than is available in Reiki. The energy is made available by the laying the hands (called a chelation) on positions (usually on the front of the body) that closely parallel the endocrine system, the chakras and the major articulations as well as any other part of the body that is in need of healing. BBSH practitioners learn techniques to work with the seven levels of the field, to dissolve the energy blocks in the field (aura), restructure lines of light which are the template for the physical body, and repair the energy field of organs and chakras so that they can metabolize universal energy to nourish the human body and return it to a healthy functionality. Many other techniques are also available to the BHS practitioner, including past life healing, relational cords and spiritual surgery assisted by spirit guides. BBSH practitioners can also access and work in the dimensions of intention (Hara) and essence (Core Star).
Reiki has no prerequisites and it is very simple. The fact that it is learned in short courses and is easily accessible to everyone has greatly contributed to its widespread popularity and use. Reiki teaches the basic healing modality with encouragement for the practitioner to do personal healing work. While there are many Reiki associations and organizations, there is no single governing body or a single protocol for teaching.
This inherently brings inconsistency and variations to the teaching. Some teach it superficially and others with great respect and sacredness. The approach to all dis-ease and disease is the same. No specific techniques are taught to treat specific conditions. The student may be briefly introduced to the human energy field, depending on the teaching Reiki Master’s knowledge and background.
Level 1 is usually taught in 1 or 2 days and includes what Reiki is and what it can be used for, method of self-treatment, method of treatment for another person, 4 attunements.
Level 2 is usually taught in 1 day and includes sacred symbols, method of distant treatment, method for mental Reiki & 2 attunements.
Level 3 is usually taught in 1 day and includes the Master symbol, the Master attunement (called the 3rd level attunement in the 4-level system) In the 3-level system, the student becomes a Reiki Master and is taught to teach at all levels.
Level 4 includes: an additional symbol, a sacred water ceremony and an initiation ritual. Most Reiki Masters in the 4-level system choose to wait until the student has completed level 4 before teaching the student to teach levels 1-4.
There are no formal guidelines or requirements for the student’s personal development work. Reiki Master’s guidance allow the practitioner to grow in consciousness and self-awareness as well as do some clearing of his or her energy field. This helps the practitioner to become a clearer channel for the energy and to improve his or her presence with the client as the student integrates the different levels.
With Reiki, the practitioner channels universal energy through his or her crown chakra and makes it available to the client through the palm chakras. This is done by laying the hands on positions that closely parallel the endocrine system, the chakras and the major articulations as well as any other part of the body that is in need of healing. The traditional positions go from the head to the feet and then the back.
Emphasis is placed on “getting one’s self out of the way” and letting the client’s energy field draw whatever is needed. The energy goes where it needs to go to do the work that is needed and ready to happen. The Reiki practitioner simply allows the energy to move through him or her and does not direct the energy or “pull” things out of the field. No specific techniques are taught; the energy simply does the work.
What happens in an energy healing session?
Typically, I will spend the first fifteen minutes talking with you and learning about what you would like help with. If it is your first session, this amount of time may be longer. During the conversation, I am actively listening while observing the energy patterns of movement and inviting your Highest Good into the session.
During the initial check-in, I’ll ask you questions about your health and overall state of well-being or current complaints. BHS Practitioners are not doctors and therefore do not diagnose illness or prescribe drugs, yet it is still important to share this so I will know how to work with your energy system and which techniques to apply.
Once the discussion is complete, you will lie down on a massage table, fully clothed and, if necessary, supported by a bolster. You may also be covered by a blanket.
During the session, your job is to receive and relax as much as possible. Each person’s experience during the session is unique and will differ. Some people find it helpful to pay attention to the breath. Others will fall asleep or enter into a half sleep or alpha state of relaxation. A wide range of emotions may arise. Often people find the healings to be very relaxing and experience a floating sensation.
Typically I will first give you a chelation which starts at the feet and ends at the head. A chelation is an energy healing technique that clears, charges and balances the energy field and chakras.
Although BHS is hands on healing, it differs from massage therapy or Reiki in that the touch is light and I may work with your energy with or without having hands on your body. During the chelation, I deeply rooted into the core of the earth, self, Spirit and your field as I work to facilitate change in your energy field. Energy is transmitted to you through focus, intention, and attention. I may use other techniques such as restructuring chakras, working with energetic relationship cords, restructuring of an organ, a spine cleaning, a Hara healing and a Core Star healing. Hara is often referenced in martial arts as the center of being. Hara is where we hold our intentions, life purpose, and life task. Hara is an energetic line that connects you to the earth and the heavens. Core Star is your Divine essence or your unique qualities that nobody else has in the same way as you. Healing Hara and Core Star can result in a feeling of purpose, acceptance and a knowing of Divinity on a deep level. As a BHS Practitioner, I offer these skills in working with Hara and Core Star and actively engage these dimensions during healings.
During the healing, blocked energy is released, allowing you to have a fuller and more comprehensive sense of self. The relationship between you and your healer is transformative and awakens the interconnection between mind, body, and soul. After the session is complete, I will spend a short amount time with you for questions after a healing. Generally, it is advisable to keep the conversation to a minimum so that the healing can be fully held and integrated. Questions may be asked at a later time or at the next session. It is not uncommon to have vivid dreams the evening of the healing or in subsequent days.
What is a chakra?
In Sanskrit, “chakra” means wheel of light. Chakras act like energy transformers, either stepping up or stepping down energy. They exist in the aura or Auric Dimension.
There are seven main chakras. They are located on the top of the head (7), middle of the forehead (6), throat (5), heart (4), solar plexus (3), lower belly (2) and between the legs (1). These chakras open up from points along a central energy current that runs along the spine, both on the back and front of the body. There are also numerous smaller chakras located all over the body including individual chakras in the joints, organs, hands and bottoms of the feet.
Chakras are shaped like a wheel, vortex or funnel. When functioning optimally, they spin clockwise and when less than optimal, they might spin counter clockwise or not at all. Each of the major chakras is associated with an endocrine gland. They also hold an emotional and physiological aspect of health.
The chakra’s job is to receive energy from the Universal Energy Field (the energy all around us) and nourish a particular area of the body. Each chakra holds and is activated by a frequency. The highest frequencies are found in the 7th, 6th and 5th chakras. These chakras are associated with spirituality. The lowest frequencies can be found in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd chakras which are associated with our physical being. The heart, located at the 4th, chakra serves as the bridge between the spiritual or higher chakras and the physical or lower chakras. A particular color and sound (frequency) is also associated with each major chakra.
How many sessions will I need to have?
Since everyone has different goals and challenges, there is no specific number of required sessions. A person may need just one session while another may need many sessions over the course of several months. Since your healing is ultimately your responsibility, how far you take your healing journey is up to you.
As your Healing Practitioner, I will be your guide, mirror, and committed listener in the relationship, supporting you and facilitating the process as you heal from within. Only you can determine how many sessions you need. However, we encourage you to receive more than one since it takes time to build the client-healer relationship. Additionally, it might seem like nothing is happening in a session yet much is shifting on a subconscious level.
The positive effects of the work may not be apparent right away thus necessitating additional sessions and dialogue with your healer. We recommend receiving about four sessions and then, with your BHS Practitioner, develop a healing plan based on your goals and needs.
How does long-distance healing work?
Sometimes it is not practical or even possible to receive a session in person. When this happens, I may offer to work with you from long-distance.
Physical distance is not a barrier for energy interaction. Energy care can be practiced remotely as easily as in person. A trained healer can feel the energy field and the entire system of the person receiving the care and practice healing just as effectively if the client is in the same room or at the end of the world.
A healing is comprised of basic components such as vibration or energy, intention, focus and connection to the Divine Essence within. These components do not change regardless of whether you are located in the same room as the practitioner or very far away.
There are many ways to understand how remote healings work. Some have described the “life energy” used by healers
as a subtle energy that is “faster than the energy of light”. Physical distance is not a barrier to healing interaction. Many people experience telepathic connection experiences and feel that they know what is happening to another person. A healer practicing remote energy care can feel the presence of the client and have an impact on the energy field. It is possible to feel very consciously and sometimes intensely the work that is being done, both in the body and in the energy field.
As a BHS Practitioner, I energetically connect to your body and bring you into the healing space. I then work with you as if you were physically present. Using my developed skills and inner guidance I apply various techniques as if you were physically lying on the healing table.
In some cases, you may not be able to lie on the table due to a variety of reasons such as physical constraints. In these situations, we may both sit in chairs and I may work with you effectively from a distance. The healing might involve talking or there may be silence the entire time. By using harmonic induction and healing responses learned at school, I work with your field to promote healing and well-being.
What are the benefits of receiving a BHS healing?
After an Energy Healing session, all systems in the body and the energy field are healthier when they are grounded, nourished and balanced. While each client has his or her own unique experience, below are some of the benefits you may experience during the course of or even after an Energy Healing session.
Please tell me about the Human Energy Field.
According to BHS, the Human Energy Field (HEF) consists of different levels of vibrations or frequencies and chakras. The HEF contains 4 Dimensions or the Physical, Auric, Haric and Core Star dimensions.
The Physical Dimension is our physical body. The body represents the manifestation of how we are running our energy and how we are being in all other dimensions.
The Auric Dimension is where the chakras are located. It contains seven levels which correspond to the seven major chakras. These levels exhibit similar psychological and physical characteristics to the chakras they are associated with. Each level holds a different vibration and may be structured, like lines of light, or unstructured, like fluids or clouds.
The Haric Dimension holds your intention and purpose. It exists on a deeper level than your physical body and auric field and corresponds to your soul’s purpose and life task.
The Core Dimension exists on the deepest level of being and relates to Divine essence. It is here that we find one’s unique core qualities that no one else has in the same way.
Distortions, tears, imbalances and stagnant energy may be present in the HEF. This is typically due to unprocessed trauma held in the field which undermines the natural harmony or ease of the body and results in a state of dis-ease.
When the HEF is well-balanced and healthy, one experiences vitality and a sense of well-being. All systems in the body are aligned and energetically nourished. The immune system is vibrant and life flows. Manifesting your longings is effortless. Despite the many challenges in life, there is a feeling of being grounded and in harmony with the world around you.
Please note that different schools or therapies may describe the HEF in a different way than BHS. Each school has its own vocabulary and views on energy, with no system being right or wrong. Just as Quantum Physics demonstrates how a particle and wave can be the same phenomena depending on the perspective, so too can two different people perceive energy in a different way. What’s important is that you follow your own experience and develop a perception of the HEF for yourself. We invite you to explore, experiment, and be curious about your energy field; coming into contact with it in a way that resonates for you.
Will I have to discontinue any other type of treatments?
Energy work is always intended to be in harmony with any medical or complementary treatment already in progress. There are no known negative side effects associated with these treatments.
